Chapter Nineteen

He worked long hours the next day researching the addresses for every Sean Murphy he was able to locate. Now, he was trying to find the common links that would connect them to Billy Sandburg. He found a hit on a Sean Murphy who was living in the suburbs of Los Angeles that seemed promising. That Sean Murphy lived in the same neighborhood as Billy during their high school years, and both were on the football team, too. Although he didn’t find any high school yearbook photographs of Billy and Sean together, it seemed plausible that they would have known each other.

Digging deeper took a while, but it proved to be quite rewarding. He was able to follow a trail from the Los Angeles area Sean Murphy all the way to an east coast college where he attended for three years before he finished his senior year at UCLA. That seemed odd in itself. Why would someone leave a good school after completing three years, and move across the country to finish up his last year at a new school?

It felt like he was missing something, and that caused him to sift through the online files again. He found a page that listed the student rosters for the duration Sean was enrolled at the east coast college. He checked a few years before Sean arrived, and several years after, to see if any names popped out at him.

And then, it did just that.

It was a name that Fizzbo might have normally skipped right over if Kensey hadn’t mentioned it early on when they were getting to know each other. Now, that unique name jumped off the page and slapped him across the face. Two years behind Sean, a kid by the name of Kensington Thorpe was in his freshman year.

Holy. Fucking. Shit.

Was that how Kensey knew Sean? Were they college friends? Although, judging by the anger wafting off of Kensey when he saw the file Fizzbo had on Sean, it didn’t seem likely that they were. Fizzbo searched for every scrap of information he could find on Kensington Thorpe. He found the newspaper articles from the car crash that took Kensey’s parents and several more notable features on a Tenacious A. Thorpe, who was well-known in the Wall Street circles of Manhattan. Who the fuck named their kid ‘Tenacious? Fizzbo rolled his eyes at that thought, but there was no doubt he had the correct family and the right Kensington. He even managed to find a photograph of a young Kensey from his freshman year.

My god. The beautiful boy sure grew up to be a stunning man.

But, as well-connected and visible as Sean seemed to be in this school–playing on the school’s football team, a member of all the right social clubs, and one of the brothers in charge of a fraternity house on campus, Kensey was nearly invisible. Fizzbo found almost no trace that Kensey was even a part of the student body at this college, except for his freshman yearbook photograph and one other shot of him standing with the boys and girls chorus.
